Silent Hike
Silent Hike: The purpose
of this hike is to listen. This is hard for some girls (and adults!) who
like to giggle!!! Try it late at night or early in the morning when the
surroundings are strange & mysterious.
Rhyming Hike
Rhyming Hike: The
first person sees something -anything- and calls it out, "I see an ant." Somebody replies with a rhyme, "It's sitting on a Plant," and then names
a new object. "I see a..."
Rainbow Hike
Rainbow Hike: Have
an envelope containing different colored squares of construction paper,
one for each girl (not just browns and greens, have some yellows, a
purple, etc). Have the girls find something in nature the same color as
each one of the squares.
Alternative I: hand out crayons.
Alternative II: prior to the hike, mark a trail with objects the color of a rainbow. Fun on a rainy day.

Observation Bingo
Observation Bingo: Make
up a Bingo card with 2, 3, or 4 squares across and the same number down
(the younger the girls, the less number of squares). Enter things to
look for on the hike such as: stream, animal tracks, erosion, berries,
wildflower, trash, pine cone, poison ivy, moss, pine tree; things likely
to be seen on your hike. When someone sees an object, they mark it off
on their card. Brightly colored crayons are easy to find when dropped.
Alphabet Hike
Alphabet Hike: Find object that names begin with the letters of the alphabet. Beginning with A and ending with Z.
